U.S. House of Representatives (D-14th/CA)
Jacqueline "Jackie" Speier is the U.S. Representative for California's 14th congressional district, serving since 2008. The district includes the northern two-thirds of San Mateo County and the southwest quarter of San Francisco. She is also a former member of the California State Senate who represented parts of San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Speier serves on the House Armed Services and on Oversight and Government Reform Committees.
A proponent of immigration reform, Speier is a cosponsor of the Dream Act of 2011 and the Border Security, Economic opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.
Speier is an original co-sponsor of H.Res130, acknowledging the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and religious tolerance and commemorating the cylinder’s tour in the United States.
Speier signed and supported a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry calling on the administration to prioritize the release of Amir Hekmati, an Iranian American and Marine veteran who has been detained in Iran since August 2011.
Speier served as an honorary co-host of the opening reception to celebrate A Thousand Years of the Persian Book exhibition at Library of Congress in March of 2013.
